COVID-19 & After School Guideline Changes
With the school year upon us, we are reaching out to provide you with important information regarding the Summit’s current guidelines that have been put in place in response to COVID-19. Please read through the following information and how these changes may impact you and your children’s time at the Summit this fall.
As a Medical Fitness Center, the Summit provides services to a wide variety of individuals and a number of Kalispell Regional Medical Center out-patient clinics which operate within the facility. In order for the Summit to maintain appropriate physical distancing requirements and to reduce risk while protecting the safety of all facility users, the following changes have been implemented that affect student access:
Full access to the Summit is now restricted to members over the age of 13.
Members between the ages of 11-12 are permitted access only if accompanied by a responsible adult 18 and older.
Members under the age of 13 are only permitted on-site without a responsible adult if participating within a structured program (i.e. SPARKS, swim team, Youth Training Academy, etc.).
In addition to the changes in age guidelines, it is important to note other additional measures have been implemented in response to COVID-19:
The Pro Shop is currently closed. While snacks and cold beverages are available at the Front Desk, coffees/smoothies and other food items such as salads and sandwiches will not be available at this time.
Gathering in groups in the lobby is no longer allowed due to physical distancing requirements. All furniture has been removed from the lobby which includes tables, chairs, and couches. For students, this means a suspension of socializing and completing homework in the lobby before heading downstairs and/or waiting to be picked up by parents.
Non-members do not have access to the facility at this time so members will not be able to bring in guests.
Open Gym/Basketball is limited to three people/hoop, shooting only. Interactive play is not permitted unless it includes members of the same family/household. This means that only 9 people will be allowed on the courts, including the bleacher area, from 3:00 – 5:30 PM. After 5:30 PM, the courts will not be available until 6PM.
All members are expected to a wear a mask while on site as much as possible. Members are permitted to remove them during strenuous exercise only.
Members are asked to maintain physical distancing while in the facility and will be screened upon entry. Screening includes temperature checks, and any member with any symptoms or temperature greater than 100° will not be permitted on site and will be asked to stay away until symptom free for 24 hours (with no fever-reducing medications). In addition to the temperature checks the following questions will be asked:
Are you experiencing any COVID-related symptoms?
Have you had any known/suspected contact with someone thought or confirmed to have COVID?
Current Hours are Mondays – Fridays 5AM – 730PM and Saturdays & Sundays 7AM – 3PM.
We will be closed Monday, September 7, 2020 (Labor Day)
We are considering expanding hours in October.
In order to maintain appropriate physical distancing we need to limit the number of facility users, including students in the facility at any given time due to the capacity of the gymnasium and weight area. Current capacity is limited to 125 members at any given time. The Front Desk will be monitoring capacity particularly during after school and evening hours to ensure that appropriate capacity is not exceeded. Once capacity limit has been met, members/students will not be allowed to enter the facility and may need to wait.
As a reminder, the Summit does have specific policies and expectations regarding behavior. These policies are for our members, as well as guests of members and non-members who use our facility.
Behavior That Constitutes a Warning
not complying with mask policy or other COVID related restrictions/expectations
yelling in the lobby or around the Wellness offices
leaving trash behind or throwing trash at others
leaving backpacks unattended
talking back to Summit Staff
trying to sneak non-members past the front desk or down the elevators
Two Warning Policy
The first time a Summit staff member addresses a behavior that constitutes a warning, that students name will be recorded, a note will be placed in their member account, and parents will be notified.
The second time a behavior is addressed, the student will be asked to leave the facility for the day and their parents or guardian will be notified. The situation will be reviewed by the Summit’s Leadership Team and may result in a temporary suspension.
If a student receives a second warning on the same day, they will be suspended for a week and a call to their parents will be made by a supervisor notifying them of the suspension and reason for it.
