Save The Brain - Concussion Management Program at The Summit
Studies show that 5–10% of athletes will experience a concussion during any given sports season. Despite these numbers, concussions remain largely misunderstood and misdiagnosed. For example:
1.Most concussions occur without loss of consciousness.
2.Athletes who have suffered a concussion at any point in their lives have an increased risk for another concussion.
3.Young children and teens are more likely to get a concussion and take longer to recover than adults.
4.Concussions are the most common sports-related brain injury among 15–24 year olds.
WHAT IS MY FIRST STEP?
If you or someone you know has suffered a concussion, help is available. Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s Neuroscience & Spine Institute and The Summit Medical Fitness Center have worked together to create the Save the Brain Concussion Management Program. Developed by a team of expert neuroscience, family practice, pediatrics, and orthopedic and sports medicine clinicians, this program provides comprehensive prevention, education, treatment, and care for all athletes.
To help raise awareness about all types of traumatic brain injuries, we encourage parents, coaches, school districts, healthcare providers, and community organizations to contact The Summit to schedule a pre-season baseline cognitive ImPACT and balance Biodex concussion test as soon as possible.
