Montana Children’s partners with Flathead Lake Lodge for “A Week of Hope”
Montana Children’s, Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s pediatric facility, was built to bring hope and healing to children and families in the Flathead Valley and throughout the state. From June 7 – 14, 2020, Montana Children’s is partnering with Flathead Lake Lodge, a family-owned guest ranch in Montana, and HopeKids, a national organization that provides ongoing events and activities for families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition, for a week-long event called “A Week of Hope.”
The event will commemorate Flathead Lake Lodge’s 75th anniversary, welcoming families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition to their 2,000 acre ranch in Bigfork. Hosting up to 20 kids, the Lodge will treat these special guests and their families to authentic Western experiences—including horseback trail rides, water recreation, and a barn dance. Throughout the week, Montana Children’s will facilitate medical care and support to the guests, as well as providing onsite physicians at Flathead Lake Lodge.
“So much of what we do at Montana Children’s is with the goal to get kids back to normal life and allow them to enjoy their childhood,” explains Carly Rickard, Chief Development Officer at Montana Children’s. “For many of our families—and for families across the country who have children with life-threatening illnesses—a vacation like this just isn’t possible due to medical and financial constraints. We are proud to partner with Flathead Lake Lodge to provide onsite medical support so that kids can just be kids, and families can focus on making memories outside of the hospital.”
“A Week of Hope” was created to give back and honor the last 75 years of family and Western traditions. “As we thought about how to celebrate our 75th anniversary, we knew it had to be bigger than us,” says Chase Averill, the third-generation general manager at Flathead Lake Lodge. “For our family, it was important that we celebrate the legacy that was started by Grandpa Les when he opened the lodge in 1945 and continued by my own father, Doug, as he helped carry on the Western way of life.”
