Eureka Physician Receives Montana Family Physician of the Year Award
Eureka Healthcare Physician Edward Stein, MD was recently selected as the Montana Family Physician of the Year by the Montana Academy of Family Physicians. This prestigious award is based on nominations from medical staff peers and leaders, and Dr. Stein was selected from a large pool of nominations statewide.
Dr. Stein is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, and attended Carroll College in Helena and the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. Shortly thereafter, he started full time at the former Eureka Prompt Care in 2000, commuting part-time from Kalispell from 1997-2000 before moving to Eureka. Dr. Stein has been a member of the Eureka community for 20 years now, and, as described in the nomination written by a former student that worked with Dr. Stein, “Spending this much time in the community, he was able to treat a patient as an entire life, not just a single visit.”
“Dr. Stein has been the rock for health care in the Eureka community for the past 20 years,” states Jay Erickson, Assistant Dean for Regional Affairs at the University of Washington School of Medicine in his nominating letter. “As many providers have come and gone, Dr. Stein has continued to be the main primary care provider for this rural community.”
Another student that worked with Dr. Stein explained, “Dr. Stein is always able to put the patient first. His passion for people in his community, both inside and outside the clinic, is phenomenal.”
“What a wonderful surprise and honor,” said Dr. Stein. “I think the best part of this is that I feel it recognizes what all of us do in rural communities with limited resources to care for our patients, including our community healthcare partners and our entire Eureka Healthcare staff and providers.”
