Kalispell Regional Medical Center offers quality classes with top-notch instructors. We recommend that you take the childbirth classes in order, but feel free to pick and choose depending on your needs.

Pregnant! Now What?

Class 1
This class gives the answers of what to expect when you're expecting. We will discuss early pregnancy issues of what's happening with mom, baby and dad, including comfort measures, anatomy, nutrition guidelines, prenatal care, testing, precautions, body mechanics, fitness and communication tips.

Stages of Labor

Class 2
This class discusses what is going on in your body during the early, active, transition and pushing stages of labor. We also briefly touch on positions and relaxation techniques useful in labor, but this is more thoroughly reviewed in the Labor Support class. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your coach.

Labor Support

Class 3
This class provides an in-depth opportunity to practice breathing strategies and positions. We also briefly review the stages of labor, but this is more thoroughly discussed in the Stages of Labor class. Get information on labor and delivery pain relief to make informed, educated childbirth choices for your birth plan and what to do if panic strikes. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your coach.

Enough Is Enough: Medications & C-Section

Class 4
This class discusses medication pain relief in labor as well as cesarean sections, emergency deliveries and other unexpected events that can occur during labor.  It also gives ideas for preparing siblings for the new baby. Sibling information is presented for parents only to discuss and decide later what is appropriate and desired for their individual children. An anesthesiologist guest speaker will present information and answer questions towards the end of class.

Tour Night!

Class 5
This class covers when to come to the birthing center, where to go, what to bring and who to call! There will be a guided tour of the OB department, including labor/birthing rooms, beds, equipment, the operating room, nutrition, family rooms, neonatal intensive care unit and the recovery/postpartum areas. A time of open discussion and an opportunity to develop your individual birth plan will be provided.

Welcome Baby! We Did It and Now We Have to Go Home?

Class 5
This class discusses recovery from labor and the homecoming. It includes baby care basics, what is needed, home and environmental safety, family planning, adjusting to your new life, baby blues and postpartum depression. A pediatrician will be available to speak with you and answer any questions.

Please note that Kalispell Regional Medical Center is dedicated to the care of you and your baby; not just prenatally and during labor, but also after you have gone home. Our unique walk-in clinic provides excellent care and is available to the KRMC community.

Childbirth Education, Brief Edition

This class is a condensed version of several of our classes. We will review the basics to prepare you and your coach for your birth experience as well as briefly review relaxation techniques and breathing patterns. For more detailed information, please consider the individual classes on the topics of specific interest to you. (The movies viewed in this class may be a duplication of movies viewed in the other classes.) This class is geared more toward those who have had prior classes and would like a little review or for first-time parents-to-be who are a little crunched for time in preparation for the arrival of their baby.

This class is for first-time grandparents and is focused on helping the parents-to-be be the best they can be.

Infant Safety and CPR

This class focuses on the safety of your newborn. Potential home hazards and sudden infant death syndrome will be discussed, in addition to an opportunity to learn and practice CPR techniques that could potentially save a life.

Breastfeeding Successfully

Taught by a registered nurse lactation specialist, this class helps soon-to-be parents learn the basics of breastfeeding, ways to work with other family members to encourage and support breastfeeding, pumping information and returning to work. You may register for this class at any time during your pregnancy.

Breastfeeding Support Group

This group provides education, support and fun for new moms. Siblings are welcome and can meet new friends. No registration is required. We have a monthly speaker on the first Thursday of every month.

Infant Massage

Taught by taught by Quincy Bennetts, a physical therapist and certified infant massage instructor, this class will teach new parents, grandparents and caregivers how to introduce intentional, loving touch to your new baby. Infant massage promotes bonding and teaches parents how to read your infant's cues of social engagement, and it's FUN! Adaptable to babies with special needs and for expecting adoptive families, too. May also be taught to your newborn. Email below to inquire more.

Note: Please bring a baby blanket and a soft doll and wear loose, comfortable clothes. This class is appropriate to take anytime during pregnancy.
