Spine and joint injections include pain injections as well as injections of X-ray contrast to aid other radiology modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The injections help to control pain from nerve impingement or orthopedic injury.
How to Prepare
Bring someone to drive you home.
What to Expect
In the lab, interventional radiology staff will help you onto a narrow table.
You will be awake during the brief procedure. Depending on the injection site, you will lie on your stomach or your back.
Guided by imaging and using a small needle, the interventional radiologist will inject either anesthetic or a steroid into the target area.
After the Procedure
You will receive specific discharge instructions from the interventional radiology staff.
