Spine and Joint Injections

KRMC Interventional Radiology
Spine and joint injections include pain injections as well as injections of X-ray contrast to aid other radiology modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The injections help to control pain from nerve impingement or orthopedic injury.

How to Prepare
  • Bring someone to drive you home.
What to Expect
  • In the lab, interventional radiology staff will help you onto a narrow table.
  • You will be awake during the brief procedure. Depending on the injection site, you will lie on your stomach or your back.
  • Guided by imaging and using a small needle, the interventional radiologist will inject either anesthetic or a steroid into the target area.
After the Procedure
  • You will receive specific discharge instructions from the interventional radiology staff.
