Concussion or major brain injury can occur from an impact that jars or violently shakes the delicate brain inside the skull. Most concussions do not involve loss of consciousness. Injury to the brain starts with the impact and continues for up to 72 hours.
When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention
If any of the following symptoms are present, call 911 or go to the Emergency Department right away.
Loss of consciousness
Severe or increasing neck pain
Seizure or convulsion
Weakness in arms or legs
Tingling or burning in arms or legs
Severe or increasing headache
Unusual behavior change
One pupil larger than the other
