What is peripheral artery disease?

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a condition that results from a hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and/or plaque buildup in the walls of arteries leading to reduced blood flow to the limbs. Lifestyle changes are the first line of treatment, followed by medications and/or surgery. PAD increases the risk of heart attack and/or stroke.

Symptoms of PAD may include:

  • Leg or hip discomfort while walking, with the symptoms stopping while at rest
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness in the legs
  • Burning or aching pain in the feet or toes when at rest
  • Sores on the leg or foot that won’t heal
  • Cold legs or feet
  • Skin color changes in the legs or feet
  • Hair loss on legs

Risk factors of PAD and Cardiovascular Disease:

  • Family history
  • Age 55 or older
  • Diabetic or Pre-diabetic
  • Tobacco use
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Overweight
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Physically Inactive

  • Start an exercise program
  • Lose weight
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Control high blood pressure
  • Improved nutrition

How do I enroll?

You will need a referral from your physician. Most insurance plans, including medicare and VA offer coverage for SETPAD. Contact your insurance company prior to treatment to confirm coverage.
