Treatment Options

Medical Oncology

Medical oncology is the specialty of internal medicine that involves treating cancer using medicine and other medical, rather than surgical, therapies. We offer the standard of care as outlined in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines for chemotherapy and biological therapies, as well as genetic counseling.

While conquering cancer is never effortless, we educate you and your family to make the right choice. Chemotherapy is available at Northwest Oncology & Hematology’s infusion room with concurrent radiation therapy available nearby at Northwest Montana Radiation Oncology.

Pediatric oncology is the specialty of pediatric medicine that involves diagnosing and treating pediatric cancer. The pediatric oncology and hematology team at Northwest Oncology & Hematology is dedicated to providing our patients with innovative therapies in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.

Our health care team also recognizes that families are crucial partners throughout the journey, and we are committed to family-centered care. A child’s support system is an important part of treatment. Our goal is to keep children in their own communities near their families, their friends and their support systems.

Radiation Oncology

Northwest Montana Radiation Oncology Radiation therapy, sometimes called radiotherapy, is the use of various forms of radiation to safely and effectively treat cancer and other diseases. Doctors use radiation therapy to try to cure cancer, to control the growth of the cancer or to relieve symptoms such as pain.

To ensure the best possible outcome, this team approach requires collaboration and coordination among all the specialists on a patient's treatment team. During your first visit you will meet with your radiation oncologist, who may consult with other specialists to determine the best course of action before your treatment begins.

Surgical Oncology

Surgical oncology is a specialty that focuses on the surgical treatment of a variety of tumors, the most common being breast cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma and endocrine tumors. Surgery is an important part of care for many patients with cancer. It can help doctors diagnose and stage disease, treat it, relieve symptoms, and prevent cancer from spreading or returning.

Kalispell Regional Healthcare providers carefully evaluate who may benefit from surgery and are trained in modern surgical techniques such as minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques to lessen the impact of surgery on patients. You and your oncologist will work together to determine if surgical treatment is a good fit for your care plan.

The following practices care for patients who may require surgical intervention for cancer treatment:

Our staff works to find and conduct clinical research trials for patients with cancer or blood disorders. These trials involve therapies that may benefit our patients and often provide access to treatments that would not be available otherwise. We work with a variety of groups conducting nationwide trials, including the National Cancer Institute and various pharmaceutical companies.
