Robert Cale, MD, was born and raised in Alabama. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. During his senior year, he was tapped for the Omicron Delta Kappa honor/scholastic fraternity. Dr. Cale graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in January 1974. He was one of the first residents in the newly founded family practice residency program, in association with the University of Alabama in Huntsville. During 1979, Dr. Cale served as emergency room physician at what was at that time called Beekman Downtown Hospital in New York City. He completed his family practice residency in January 1977 and earned his board certification in family practice in 1980. Dr. Cale practiced emergency medicine, primary care and telemedicine in numerous hospital emergency departments in north Alabama, southeast Texas and Montana. Currently, Dr. Cale is certified as a diplomate of family medicine by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Cale is certified to prescribe buprenorphine (Suboxone) for the treatment of opioid use disorder. Dr. Cale and his wife, Lynn, have three children and one granddaughter. Having moved to Whitefish in 2006, the Cale family members are proud to live in the Last Best Place.
