Neonatology

John P. Harvey, MD, joined Kalispell Regional Medical Center’s NICU team in August 2019. Dr. Harvey brings 22 years experience to his position as staff neonatologist in the NICU department. He is also part of Montana Children's and its team of more than 40 pediatric specialists. A retired U.S. Army neonatologist, Dr. Harvey found his niche early on, with a research focus on ventilator management and extensive neonatal transport experience.

He served three Middle East tours in the military, served 10 years as a NICU director of level 3 referral centers, including extensive experience with transoceanic neonatal transport, and 10 years of rural medical service. He also served three years on the Texas Perinatal Advisory Council advising Texas Department of Health Services on level of care regulations for NICUs statewide, and worked as a state NICU surveyor for level of care designation. Dr. Harvey attended Texas Christian University where he earned his bachelor of fine arts in theater & film. After joining the military, he attended the Uniformed Services University Medical School in Bethesda, Maryland and then went to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he completed his pediatric residency. He also served a neonatal fellowship in San Antonio, at Wilford Medical Center. Dr. Harvey is Board certified in Neonatal medicine with the American Board of Pediatrics.

His professional interests include neonatal high frequency ventilation, neonatal nutrition, and family centered medical care. Dr. Harvey has a strong dedication to treating each infant in his care as if it were his own child. His personal interests include world history, marksmanship, theater, and winter weather (which should serve him well in his new home in the Flathead valley).
