Dr. Sheldon began the first surgical oncology practice in Montana in 2009 after practicing in rural central Pennsylvania for a number of years. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and then served in the United States Navy. After a lengthy career in the submarine and diving Navy forces, he then completed his surgical residency at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and went on to a surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York. He specialized in hepatobiliary, pancreatic, melanoma and endocrine surgery at the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Montana. His background includes work at the state and national level with the American College of Surgeons and the Commission on Cancer. He served as the Pennsylvania state chairman for Commission on Cancer activities and is active in Montana state cancer programs. He has published numerous articles in the cancer surgery literature. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he is married with four children and enjoys hiking, biking, skiing and rafting as well as other outdoor pursuits.
