Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Montana women. Yet only 49 percent of women in Montana over age 40 have received a mammogram within the past year. This is below the national average.
Though most insurance plans cover screening mammograms, Save a SisterTM
is available to help all women in the Flathead Valley who need financial assistance.
The Save a Sister initiative is a collaboration among Kalispell Regional Healthcare, North Valley Hospital and the Flathead City-County Health Department. Our mission is to lessen the impact of breast cancer in our community. The initiative's goals are to raise funds to improve women's access to screening mammography, educate the community, and promote breast cancer awareness and prevention through outreach activities. Save a Sister also supports postoperative durable goods that often are not paid for by insurance. All funds stay in the local area.
Every October the Save a Sister initiative hosts the Turn the Flathead Pink campaign to raise community awareness by asking businesses and individuals to decorate in pink and wear pink to celebrate and show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
