Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI ) uses a magnetic field and low-energy radio waves to create medical images.
The MRI at HealthCenter is the strongest commercially available MRI in the US, with a strength of 3-Tesla, which is double the strength of any other MRI in the Flathead Valley. Because most MRI procedures produce unwanted "noise," much like the static one hears on the radio, it tends to drown out the "signal" the body produces. As the strength of the magnetic field increases, the amount of signal which the body produces increases significantly, while the noise only increases slightly. The stronger magnet in the 3-Tesla MRI allows greater resolution within the images, helping your doctor make more accurate diagnoses. The kinds of MRI studies that benefit most from improved clarity or resolution are studies of the head and brain; cervical spine; and the joints, including the hand, foot and ankle, knee, shoulder, elbow and hip.
