What happens at the Banquet?

Attracting more than 1,000 people every year, the A.L.E.R.T. Banquet joins our community together for a beautiful fundraising event. Featuring a hosted cocktail and hors d'oeuvres hour followed by a delicious dinner buffet, live music, a silent and a live auction, prizes, awards, and more! All of the proceeds support the A.L.E.R.T., Kalispell Regional Hospital (A.L.E.R.T.) program.

The evening's program spotlights A.L.E.R.T. services and accomplishments of the past year. Our patient and flight crew are guests of honor, on hand to give personal testimony to the impact of the air ambulance service.

The Clyde Smith Award is presented to a member of a local Emergency Medical Service or Quick Response Unit. The recipient is chosen from across northwest Montana for his or her dedication, volunteerism, and service toward lifesaving efforts in the community. The award is named in honor of Clyde Smith, who put up his business, Smith Logging, as collateral against the original loan that funded the hospital's purchase of its own helicopter.

Keeping A.L.E.R.T. in the air means saving lives

The A.L.E.R.T. program started as the second hospital-based advanced life support helicopter system in the United States and the first of its kind in rural America.

When the A.L.E.R.T. program faced financial difficulties in 1978, local community members rose to the potential crisis with the formation of the A.L.E.R.T. Board, comprised of community members from businesses, primary rescue, logging, and Park and Forest Service.

Anticipating the need for a more widespread effort for community financial support, the Board established the annual A.L.E.R.T. Banquet. Proceeds from this event, coupled with generous financial support from community donors, have sustained and grown the program for the past 42 years.

Together, we can ensure access to quality healthcare in the rural landscape of northwestern Montana that we call home.
